Since I was a little girl I've always drank a cup of tea every day. I'm not sure if it's the "english"in me or if my family has a serious caffeine addiction (probably the latter) but ever since I can remember, tea has been a way to celebrate the afternoon, warm the soul and bring contentment to those long days.
"Tea Time" is at 3 pm everyday in our house and just like clockwork I await the footsteps of my eldest daughter...waking from her afternoon nap. She quietly tiptoes down to the basement where she knows I'll reside; hops up into my lap, snuggles me for a whole minute, and then impatiently questions, "mom, is it time for a tea party yet?"
As my oldest has gotten older I have looked forward to our "tea time" spent together. It has become a time that I can intentionally pour into her gentle soul and talk about her dreams and aspirations. The other day as we sat together, I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up (hoping to God she would change her answer from "Elsa/unicorn/butterfly" to something a little more....realistic), turns out we are just not there yet! However, when I questioned her if she'd like to be a mom someday she replied, "after I'm done being Elsa, then I'll be a mom." So I'll call that progress! :)
As simple as our Tea Time may be, it has been such a beautiful way to connect with my kids, just as my mom did with us as children. And it's so fun to watch as my middle child (Justus) has gotten older and seen his love for tea grow as well.
Sometimes you just need those special moments in motherhood to make it that much more worth while. Do any of you other mommas have something special and intentional you do with your kids each day? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
As always, thanks for stopping by!!! xoxo, Tessa
