This is the first year in the last 3 years that I have sent out a Christmas card and I feel so on top of my game! As a kid my mom always put together such a lovely card and then would type up a letter to go with it explaining the "happenings" of everybody in the family. It was a great way to recap the year and now looking back, serves as a great way to remember forgotten memories of the past.
So this year, I mustered up all my "doer" strength and put together my own Christmas letter/card. Although I wish I could send them out to MANY more people, we're on a pretty tight budget so if you don't get one, please know you are still in our thoughts!
As for our family "happenings" here is a little break down and if this is your first time visiting...WELCOME! This is our family!
This year has been full of blessings, where do I even begin? About a year ago Guy and I bought a foreclosed home in an older suburb of Champaign, IL. Our intentions were to make this house our own in whatever way we could. We began by totally renovating the kitchen/dining room by knocking out walls, putting in new flooring, lighting, appliances, refinishing cabinets, putting in doors…you get the picture (see the total kitchen reno HERE)! It was a massive undertaking. But with a lot of help from family and friends we got it done! It was at that time that we discovered how much we could love this home and how we could truly make it ours with a little TLC.
A couple months later we gutted our master bathroom and built something that was much more “us.” That project was like my baby because I was able to design it from scratch and really discover what I could do with an empty space (see our total bathroom reno HERE). During all that we were working on the backyard, since we had a massive 30’x15’ underground pool that was beyond repair, to fill in. Woah, THAT was a project! Jackhammering endless amounts of concrete, bringing in 3 tons of dirt, laying sod, cutting down a 40 foot tree, etc.
Not to mention we decided why not just completely redo the deck while we’re at it? Add on to it a bit? HAHA! Ugh! So here we are a year later and thinking we might be able to sell this house a lot sooner than we imagined! But we love it so much! And the process of making it ours has truly been something we have cherished and loved! It’s kind of become our “baby.”
Oh, did I mention we had another baby? We welcomed our third child, Eliza Joy on May 1st 2016. And oh man, did she ever make an entrance! Born at the hospital 17 minutes after we left our house in the middle of the night (you can see the WHOLE crazy birth story HERE). And how rude of her, she didn’t even let me get an epidural! :) She is an amazing human being! Already she’s trying to keep up with her brother and sister; watching their every move and crawling after them whenever she gets the chance! She is one loved little girl, her brother and sister cover her in kisses whenever they get the chance!
Our oldest Rozalyn just turned four this October. I’m often asking myself where in the world these last four years went and how she can be so big! She is an amazing older sister; so responsible and helpful. I swear she has the soul of a 70 year old woman. She’s always saying things that seem way too wise for her age! When asked what she wants to be when she gets older she replies, “a butterfly, lady bug, princess and unicorn.” She’s quite the dreamer I know. You can find her in 6 different outfits each day and she speaks in song 90% of the day (just imagine someone talking to you in the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” every day!). We might have to take her act on the road!
Justus, turns two this December and unlike his big sister, he doesn’t have a graceful bone in his body (he sure does try his very hardest though). He’s a rough and tumble kind of kid, although he has his moments. He looooves playing in the dirt but give him a pair of high heeled princess shoes and he’d wear them all day long. This kid has a strange obsession with shoes and has since he was 6 months old. He has become notorious for his “silent but deadly” behavior; I never know where I can find him next: on the kitchen counter, rummaging through the pantry, drawing on the walls, playing in my nail polish, lipstick, eyeshadow. You name it, this kid’s in it. He sure does know how to love big though, cuddling is his most favorite thing to do and his laugh could light up a room. I especially love watching his affection towards his baby sister, he is incredibly kind, gentle, and sweet.
Guy is in his second year of Real Estate and he is steadily loving it more and more each day. This man is one of the hardest working men I know; I love watching the ways he goes above and beyond to serve his clients. It’s truly an incredible gift he possesses and I know that it will take him farther than he ever could imagine.
And me, well, I’m here, there and everywhere these days. Just before Eliza was born I started getting my interior design business off the ground, and after she was born well…you can just about imagine how well I’m doing with managing that. I know it will all come to pass again, so in the mean time I’m blogging weekly, taking in each day and sharing it with the world in whatever way I can. Writing has been such a liberating way for me to share my heart, my children, and my love for decor and design. If you’d like to follow along with our family, you can like my page on Facebook or follow me on instagram to stay up to date with our weekly lives!
Merry Christmas everyone! We are so blessed to have you in our lives! :)
