Last week I wrote about picking out the perfect paint color, so I thought I'd share one room in my house (my little boy, Justus's room) where this decision process was rather difficult for me. When picking out paint colors for my kids rooms I wanted to keep them rather neutral for a couple reasons:
- The bedrooms in this house are TINY...like super tiny. So like I mentioned in #1 of my last post, I didn't want to make the room seem even smaller by closing in the walls with a dark color.
- With how much our family is growing and expanding, I wanted to make sure that the color was interchangeable for multiple genders.
- I just really like cool neutral tones in general and this room gets GREAT natural light so it just felt right!
My husband thinks that I paint every room "white" in our house but I assure you, IT'S NOT! :)
The color we used in his room is called "Calm" by Benjamin Moore. And I used their premium eggshell premier and primer.
Since I was doing such a neutral color, I wanted to make sure I used pops of color to play up the space. Obviously I went with red for his room.
I found this awesome burlap and cloth pendant banner this winter at Target. I actually found it in the Christmas section but I loved it so much and it already fit the "theme" that I was going with in his room that I just had to incorporate it!
I then found this AMAZING tribal patterned knit blanket from TJ Maxx and literally died. THEN I saw that it was on sale and died again! Needless to say, it found a home VERY quickly!
I thought it would be fun to incorporate some of my handlettering in his room. PLUS I had a ton of frames that were serving no purpose in my attic so I made a new home for them very quickly with this gallery wall.
A long time ago, we bought this entire dresser set off of varage sale for like $200 and it came with three different dressers, a mirror, and a headboard. Well who has room for an entire bedroom set in their room these days (definitely NOT us) so this summer I painted this dresser white and actually used some left over paint from our kitchen island on the drawers to add a little color (again neutral). Then I found a hodge-podge of knobs and pulls (long story) and we finally have a finished dresser!
I secretly love this gold deer head and want to put it in my room but I'll refrain for now since it fits this space pretty perfectly. I picked up this piece from (none other than) Target while I was skimming through the clearance isle...snagged it for $14! I call that a shopping WIN! And this sign was a left over piece of wood from our coffee bar shelves so I decided to make a fun sign out of it.
And that's all she wrote folks. I hope you had fun glimpsing into our little home and seeing what kind of projects we've got going on. It's always changing around here so I'm sure in a few months I'll be writing an updated post on this room so stay tuned for that! In the mean time, drop down below and introduce yourself or ask a question...I'd love to hear from you!
