I wanted to start these "Happy Monday: What I Loved About This Weekend" posts as sort of a journal for myself in years to come but also because, I think we so often "miss" all the little moments when we are so focused on trying to capture the "BIG" ones. I don't know why we think we have to experience all these monumental moments in order to share...why can't we just share our simple, everyday, routine days without feeling like there wasn't anything there worth sharing?
Well anyhoo...I'm going to start being more diligent about it, even if it's totally boring and uninteresting to read!
So if I'm being honest, I'm writing this post a week behind (life of a blogger) so "this weekend" is actually last weekend. But in the major scheme of things it doesn't matter. Last weekend was so special for so many reasons...one being, my mom came down from Michigan to visit. It had been since THANKSGIVING that I saw her. It was so good to have her around for a couple days and just be with her. We have some of the best conversations.
Before she arrived though, my oldest daughter Rosalyn asked if we could go on a walk (just the two of us) around the block. Whenever I can (and have the energy to do so), I try to have these intentional one-on-one times with her. Even though she's the oldest and in theory has had the most attention given to her during her lifetime; I often feel like I put a whole lot of pressure on her to act older and perform more tasks than a "normal" 4 year old would. So from time to time I like to remind her that she is just a four year old an deserves to be treated as such.
So when we are able (when the other two are taking naps), I like to sneak out and do some fun things with her. That weekend, we went for a walk. I decided to take my camera so we could snap some fun pictures along the way. She's so fun to photograph!
Before we left, she asked if I would put some of my red lipstick on her. She always does this funny thing with her lips when she wears lipstick...I'll have to capture it on video someday because it's absolutely hilarious!
About 5 steps into this walk I begged Rozalyn to turn around because it was so freakin' cold but she insisted we carry on. I'm glad we did...we had some great laughs along the way!
And only a few minutes after we got home, I found Eliza in the "bigs" bedroom getting into a marker or two.....
Hopefully those aren't too toxic! She seemed to have loved it though...
Thanks for reading about our weekend! Hopefully you enjoyed it! Here are few other things I found this weekend that I loved!
